The Beginning of My Journey in Community Health

The Beginning of My Journey in Community Health

In 2016, my journey in community health began during my National Service at the University of Cape Coast Hospital Laboratory. While working in the microbiology lab, I noticed a troubling pattern: many female patients returned with recurring infections. They also struggled to provide quality samples for analysis, largely due to a lack of knowledge about reproductive health. Realizing the knowledge gap, I felt compelled to act. I started sharing simple reproductive health tips on WhatsApp and social media, determined to make a difference in their lives.

As time went on, my passion for educating others only grew. To formalize my efforts, I rebranded my work and registered the name Vagicare Konsult. The early days were challenging. I wrote over 100 letters to organizations and churches offering free educational sessions, but no one responded for six months. The experience discouraged me, but I kept learning, improving, and staying consistent with my online education. Then, a breakthrough came. The Catholic Church at the University of Cape Coast invited me to deliver my first talk. That day, I poured my heart into the session, and it became a defining moment for me.

Looking back, I see two people who played instrumental roles in starting this journey. Isaac Derban encouraged me to focus on female-centred education, helping me shape the foundation of Vagicare Konsult. Then there was Seryrah Gakpetor, a dear friend who became my first real client through her constant questions about reproductive health. Her trust in me and her endless curiosity pushed me to learn more and give my best. These two individuals inspired and supported me during the most uncertain phases of my journey.

The early days were tough, but they taught me resilience and patience. I realized that building something impactful takes time and effort. Each letter I sent, each post I shared, and each conversation I had contributed to what Vagicare Konsult stands for today. It’s been a journey of small but meaningful steps, fueled by a commitment to make a difference in women’s lives.

Now, eight years later, Vagicare Konsult has become a trusted name in reproductive health education and community health screening. From WhatsApp messages to leading workshops and organizing health events, we’ve grown into a platform that empowers women to take charge of their health. It’s been a fulfilling journey, and I am proud of the impact we’ve made so far.

As I look to the future, I remain committed to expanding the reach of Vagicare Konsult. Every question answered, every seminar held, and every life touched reaffirms my passion for this work. The story is still being written, and I’m excited about the possibilities ahead.
